The Civil Rights Act of 1871 which includes 42 U.S.C. § § 1981, 1983, and 1985 was passed to enforce the rights guaranteed by the Civil Rights Amendments, the 13th, 14th, and 15th. Some of these rights include:

• The right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure
• The right to freedom of religion
• The right to freedom of speech & peaceable assembly
• The right to free from cruel & unreasonable punishment
• The right to bear arms
• The right to due process of law
• The right to equal protection under the law

From time to time, our government agencies, actors, employees, politicians, and other entities either overtly or inadvertently impinge on these rights. When this happens, it is our right to seek change and compensation for injuries. This is civil rights litigation.
